Esperanza Pretila

Esperanza Pretila is a Filipino Australian author, founder, and former naval officer whose life and work are anchored in hope and humanity. Born under fragile beginnings, she grew into her name, which means “hope.” She was the Philippine Military Academy’s first female Editor in Chief, the first lady recipient of the Journalism Award, and the first recipient of the Languages Plaque. She built a career in human resources and later held diverse roles in the public and commercial sectors. Now based in Adelaide, she is the author of the multi award winning haiku collection Bridges of Words, which celebrates cultural connection through poetry. She also founded Store with a Heart, a social enterprise promoting compassion and creativity, along with other community-oriented initiatives.
