Born into a family of art dealers, artists and collectors, I prize visual literacy and feel so lucky to have had early exposure to fine art at home and in museums. Working from a van conversion on the back roads of the American Southwest, and in my home studio in Phoenix, I make impressionistic paintings “en plein air”. Choosing natural surroundings or found objects as subjects, my work is grounded in the 19th and 20th century realist traditions, but characterized by loose brush strokes, simplification of details, and the suppression of transitional tones. A secondary influence would be an appreciation for the natural world, from a childhood of outdoor adventures in what I would call "assisted looking," my guide, my father, a naturalist and scientist of boundless curiosity.
