Featured Workflows

Newsjacking Workflow

Set a topic and language filters once. On each run, Featured clusters coverage from thousands of outlets, applies breakout gates so you only see stories with real momentum, and delivers a digest with trend cards plus matching journalist requests, journalists, and podcasts. Default schedule is daily; choose every 15 or 30 minutes or an hourly window when news moves faster. Open chat from any card to draft a pitch — nothing sends on your behalf.

What it matches

A topic query in plain language plus optional language, country, and theme filters — the same string drives cluster search and opportunity matching.

When it looks

Daily at 8:00 AM by default, or every 15 / 30 minutes, hourly window, weekly, monthly, or every N days — time and timezone you choose in the wizard.

Where results go

Email is the primary digest channel; Slack delivery uses the same workflow delivery settings where configured.

How Workflows work

Tell Featured what to monitor, when to look, and where to send results.

  1. 01

    Set your topic and filters

Describe the news niche in plain language, pick languages, and optionally limit countries or exclude noisy themes. One topic query drives cluster discovery and matching.

  2. 02

    Breakout scan each run

Every scheduled run clusters coverage, applies breakout gates so multi-outlet momentum rises to the top, and scores relevance to your topic before anything reaches your inbox.

  3. 03

    Digest, then pitch in chat

Trend cards land with journalist requests, writers, and podcasts attached. Open Featured chat from any card to draft a pitch — you review and send from your own inbox.

Why Newsjacking through Featured

Trend monitoring only matters when you can act before the cycle moves on.

  • Signal

    Breakout, not noise

Clusters must clear numeric breakout gates across outlets so your digest highlights stories with real momentum — not every mention of a keyword.

  • Action

    Opportunities attached

Each trend ships with journalist requests, journalists, and podcasts matched while the story is still hot — three legs per run, capped for focus.

  • Speed

    Built for the news cycle

Daily by default, with every 15 or 30 minutes or an hourly window when you need faster signal — plus quiet-day transparency and chat deeplinks to draft pitches, without auto-sending anything on your behalf.

Want source requests too?

The Journalist Requests workflow adds HARO, Connectively, Substack, and X — matched to your beats on the same schedule options.

Newsjacking workflow — frequently asked questions

What is newsjacking?+−

Newsjacking is the PR practice of tying your expertise to a breaking story while journalists and audiences are still paying attention. This workflow watches clustered coverage in your niche, surfaces breakout trends, and pairs each story with people you can pitch — without sending on your behalf.

How does breakout detection work?+−

Each run clusters articles from NewsCatcher, then applies numeric gates so only stories with multi-outlet momentum and relevance to your topic reach the digest. Quiet days still send a short note when nothing clears the bar.

Is this hourly or daily?+−

New workflows default to daily at 8:00 AM in your timezone. Newsjacking also supports every 15 or 30 minutes for breaking stories and an hourly window (runs every N hours inside hours you choose — not the same as minute-by-minute monitoring). Each run sends one digest either way; faster schedules mean more runs and higher usage. Weekly, monthly, and every-N-days options are available too.

How is this different from Monitor HARO or Journalist Requests?+−

Monitor HARO watches HARO editions only. Journalist Requests monitors source-request feeds across platforms. Newsjacking starts from trend clusters in your topic, then attaches journalist requests, journalists, and podcasts as opportunity legs — built for riding the news cycle, not inbox triage alone.

Does the email send pitches for me?+−

No. Digests link into Featured chat so you can draft a pitch in your voice. You send from your connected inbox when you are ready — the same human-in-the-loop model as every other workflow.

Do I need a paid plan?+−

Workflows are available on every plan, including Free. Runs consume usage like other templates; external news search spend is metered like other paid API calls. Upgrade when you want higher caps.

Which languages and countries are supported?+−

Pick ISO 639-1 languages in the wizard (English by default). Optionally limit to ISO country codes or leave countries empty for worldwide coverage. Exclude themes when certain topics pollute your niche.
