I am putting together a “Comprehensive Rockhounding Guide” for a publication dedicated to outdoor recreation, survival, and gear.
We want to move beyond generic beginner advice and offer readers scientific, accurate insights. I am looking for a credentialed Geologist, Earth Science Professor, or Academic Researcher to contribute to a section titled “The Science of the Hunt: A Geologist’s Guide to Reading the Landscape.” We want to know how experts look at a landscape and determine the likelihood of finding specific minerals, agates, or geodes.
To be included, please provide your current academic title, university affiliation, and area of geological research.
Please answer one or two of the following questions in 2–3 short paragraphs:
• What geological markers or visual clues indicate that a landscape might be a good area for rockhounding?
• Are certain environments (e.g., volcanic or sedimentary) better for finding stones like agates or geodes?
• What is one major misconception beginners have about where minerals are formed and found?
Please also include a brief 2–3 sentence bio and a link to a high-resolution headshot, along with the URL to your university faculty profile, research lab, or professional website for proper credit.
