There was a time when I worked with a salesperson who was technically skilled but struggled with client-facing communication, particularly during initial meetings. Recognizing this, I adjusted my coaching style by shifting from a more general, results-driven approach to a personalized, hands-on training that focused specifically on building confidence in communication. I emphasized active listening and empathy, helping them learn to connect with clients on a deeper, more authentic level. The impact was significant. By adapting my coaching to align with their strengths and challenges, the salesperson began to feel more comfortable engaging with clients. They moved from being reactive to proactive in conversations, which ultimately resulted in improved sales performance and stronger client relationships. This experience reinforced the importance of flexibility in coaching-understanding that each individual has unique strengths and weaknesses that require tailored guidance.
