I started my blog in 2023 with the intention of focusing a good amount in affiliate marketing. My piece of advice is that focusing on affiliate income is a short-term goal and only one part of the puzzle when it comes to content creation. If focusing on this is your only focus, you're going to be disappointed when you see yourself earning pennies off Amazon Affiliates after spending hours a week perfecting blog articles. So, what do you do instead? View affiliate marketing as a long game, and as a game that's played with other techniques, too. You can't JUST focus on affiliate income -- you need to look at the big picture as a combination of affiliate income and other things, like a membership, a course, brand partnerships, ads, etc. This is especially important because many niches don't have high-ticket affiliate offers -- which means if you want to make a lot of money, you'll need to advertise A LOT of products, which could get tiring and could potentially loose your audience's trust. Only when you see affiliate marketing as a piece of the puzzle (and not the whole puzzle) you will start seeing that affiliate marketing will beautifully complement the rest of the parts of your robust, multi-faceted, wildly abundant business!
If you're considering diving into affiliate marketing, my primary piece of advice is to focus on building trust with your audience from the outset. The most successful affiliate marketers are those who establish themselves as trustworthy sources of information, not just sellers. For instance, when I started with affiliate marketing, I focused on creating content that was genuinely helpful and informed by personal experience with the products. I would test products myself, share detailed reviews, and discuss both pros and cons openly. This approach not only increased engagement but also built a loyal following that was more likely to consider my recommendations. A practical tip to implement this strategy is to choose affiliate products that you are genuinely interested in or have used yourself. This authenticity in your choice allows you to create more convincing and personal content, which resonates well with audiences. Remember, affiliate marketing is not just about pushing sales but about being a reliable resource that can guide people's purchase decisions. The trust you build can turn into sustained revenue over time as your audience grows to value your opinions.
