I'm a big fan of technology in medicine. In fact, we already use AI in our office. But AI simply cannot read the room... not yet. For example, if a patient says everything is fine, but is visibly nervous, AI can't sense body language and make the patient more comfortable. Or, if a patient doesn't want to talk about trauma, AI can't pivot the conversation, nor offer genuine empathy. Timing is critical too. A smile now and then, an appropriate joke now and then - these things establish rapport. AI struggles with rapport, and that is half the battle. Current AI cannot respond/react the way a human intuitively can.
