As both a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor and a Reiki Master, I've seen how emotional and energetic healing go hand in hand. One of the most profound ways I integrate Internal Family Systems (IFS) with Reiki is by helping clients recognize and communicate with different "parts" of themselves--especially those carrying pain, fear, or self-judgment. In IFS, we understand that every person has inner parts, each with its own role and purpose. Some parts may be protectors, working tirelessly to shield us from past wounds, while others may hold deep emotional burdens. Reiki, as an energetic healing practice, helps bring awareness and balance to these internal dynamics by allowing the body and mind to access a deep state of relaxation and receptivity. During Reiki sessions, I encourage clients to tune into any emotions, thoughts, or physical sensations that arise. Often, a particular part of them will make itself known--perhaps through a sudden wave of anxiety, a tightness in the chest, or even an image or memory surfacing. Rather than pushing these experiences away, we approach them with curiosity and compassion, just as we do in IFS therapy. For example, I worked with a client who carried intense self-doubt, which she described as a tight, heavy feeling in her solar plexus. Through Reiki, we held space for this part of her to express itself, and she began to recognize it as a younger version of herself, one that had learned to be self-critical as a way to stay safe. By bringing warmth and acceptance to this part--both through Reiki energy and IFS dialogue--she was able to shift from judgment to understanding, allowing this part to relax its grip. The combination of Reiki and IFS allows clients to move beyond intellectual awareness and truly feel the shifts happening in their system. Reiki facilitates the release of energetic blockages, while IFS provides the framework to work with these internal parts in a healing and transformative way. Together, they create a powerful synergy that supports deep emotional healing, self-compassion, and inner harmony.
A few years ago, I worked with a patient who had chronic neck and upper back pain that wasn't responding to standard physiotherapy treatments. Given my 30 years of experience in musculoskeletal health, I knew there had to be an underlying factor beyond just posture or muscle strain. Through deeper discussions, it became clear that stress and emotional tension were playing a significant role. I collaborated with a remedial massage therapist and a mindfulness coach within our clinic to take a more holistic approach. The patient started incorporating guided breathwork and meditation into their routine, along with physiotherapy and targeted exercises to correct postural imbalances. Over time, their pain significantly reduced, and they also reported better sleep and an overall sense of calm. This experience reinforced my belief that addressing both physical and emotional factors leads to long-term recovery. Having worked with elite athletes and professionals alike, I've seen how the mind-body connection influences physical health. Many people hold tension in their bodies due to work stress, anxiety, or even unresolved trauma. By integrating physiotherapy with alternative practices like mindfulness, massage, and movement therapy, we can break the cycle of chronic pain. This patient's transformation was a perfect example of how an integrated approach, guided by expertise in both biomechanics and holistic wellness, can create lasting results. At The Alignment Studio, we continue to apply these principles, ensuring that our patients don't just recover but thrive.
I work with women who have health issues & all health issues are rooted in the emotional subconcious. I worked with Mary who had chronic pain with no apparent root cause so her chiropractor sent her to me. Mary had lead an interesting life but there had been sexual abuse, death of a partner, difficult childhood with emotional trauma, divorce etc. We used NLP, hypnosis, Reiki & intuitive skills to find the root of the pain and to clear the blocks. The pain had drastically reduced by the next day, plus she told me that there had been big shifts in her personality & behaviour which friend & family commented on immediately. We had 3 sessions in total.
After beating two incurable disease, I fully understand how Trauma Blocks Healing: One must understand The Mind-Body Connection Trauma and unresolved emotional events can create a deep physiological and psychological imprint, preventing healing-whether using Western allopathic medicine or alternative integrative therapies. The body holds onto trauma at the cellular, neurological, and energetic levels, making true recovery difficult until the trauma is processed and released. Key Ways Trauma Blocks 1. Nervous System Dysregulation (Chronic Fight-or-Flight Mode) Trauma activates the sympathetic nervous system, keeping the body in a constant state of stress (fight, flight, freeze, or fawn). A stressed nervous system disrupts digestion, immune function, and hormone balance, preventing true healing. 2. Emotional Suppression Stores Trauma in the Body Unprocessed emotions (grief, shame, fear, anger) get trapped in the fascia, muscles, and nervous system, leading to chronic pain, inflammation, and disease. Trauma Alters Brain Chemistry & Immune Function Chronic emotional stress leads to high cortisol, adrenaline, and inflammation, which damage the body over time. Trauma weakens the immune system, making it harder to recover from infections, injuries, or diseases. Conditions like autoimmune disorders, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, and even cancer have been linked to unresolved trauma and prolonged stress responses. Western medicine often treats symptoms but not the emotional root cause, leaving the underlying trauma unresolved Alternative healing can be more effective, but if the trauma remains unaddressed, the body resists deeper healing. Once I discovered this new way of looking at healing, I have beat both diseases, and went on to invent and create healing wellness devices. One must look at all areas of the Mind Body Connection. Healing happens faster for those that incorporate this into their journey like I did.
I once visited an acupuncturist during a period when I was experiencing chronic headaches. Traditional medications weren’t providing relief, and I was becoming increasingly frustrated and despondent. During my initial consultation, the acupuncturist took an extensive history and asked about aspects of my life that I hadn’t considered to be related to my physical symptoms, such as stress, diet, and emotional well-being. The acupuncturist suggested that the headaches could be linked to an imbalance in my emotional health, specifically stress and unresolved emotional issues. I underwent several acupuncture sessions, which were surprisingly relaxing and rejuvenating. Alongside the physical treatment, I was advised to engage in mindfulness practices and was given dietary recommendations aimed at improving my overall well-being. Over time, my headaches became less frequent and less severe, and I noticed a significant improvement in my emotional resilience. Engaging with alternative medicine taught me the importance of considering the whole person—body, mind, and spirit—in health care, and it was a genuinely eye-opening experience that improved not just my headaches but my overall approach to health.
I had an experience where an alternative medicine practitioner helped me address a recurring back pain that had no clear physical cause. After several visits to traditional doctors with no relief, I decided to consult a holistic chiropractor who specialized in mind-body connections. During our sessions, the practitioner asked about my emotional well-being and stress levels, and we discussed past experiences that might have been contributing to my physical discomfort. The process involved a combination of energy healing techniques, deep breathing exercises, and guided emotional release work, which helped me uncover a connection between my back pain and unresolved emotional stress from a recent life change. As I worked through these emotions, the back pain gradually decreased. The outcome was not only a physical improvement but also a greater sense of emotional balance and clarity. It reinforced the idea that physical health often reflects our emotional and spiritual state, and addressing both aspects led to a more holistic and lasting recovery.
Alternative medicine can greatly affect health outcomes, offering businesses opportunities in wellness products. A friend's experience highlights this: after struggling with chronic anxiety and fatigue, they turned to holistic practices like mindfulness meditation and acupuncture. This shift improved not just their physical health but also their mindset and lifestyle, leading to reduced anxiety and increased energy. Their journey emphasizes the importance of personalized health approaches aligned with individual values.
