I attend at least one and usually two lectures at the trade shows, and ask questions. These good folks have spent hours and hours of researching trends that are happening and also what is in the pipeline for years to come. I don't always have to agree 100% in what they say, but there is usually a strong direction. Dallas Lighting Show, AKA Lightovation, Atlanta Merchandise Mart, and the Hight Point Furniture Market are all great shows that I regularly attend that offer wonderful lectures.
At Sturgess Architecture, we create extraordinary spaces where enduring memories are made. As architects we believe it’s critical to the success of the business not to follow design trends, but rather be leaders. Trends are a snapshot in time. Architecture that endures is rooted in place and context: our spaces enrich lives through functionality, sustainability, and beauty. While context is often understood as site surroundings, we see context as much more. For example, when the world came to a metaphorical halt with the COVID-19 pandemic, our office investigated how we could help solve the “work from home” (https://www.sturgessarchitecture.com/office-retreat) challenges and the resultant office vacancy (https://www.sturgessarchitecture.com/retrofit-study) problems. Rather than standing by, we strive to be an example of excellence in design, and to be a source of inspiration.
My background in architecture, combined with over 10 years in the fencing industry, is enriched by ongoing collaboration with architects, designers, and related professionals such as urban planners and landscape architects. This professional network enables knowledge sharing and keeps me updated on industry trends and innovations, essential for introducing new fence styles that align with modern home designs. Engaging with experts in related fields really help me stay informed and this help my business maintain a competitive advantage.
