This is an extremely well-rounded hobby that can be done in 10 minutes or 10 miles.
The bulk of my work involves plowing through large amounts of data. One blink and you might miss a situation-changing insight. Try playing a multi-tasking hero, and you'll drive yourself nuts without anything to show for it at the end of the day. For even deeper work, a powerful mindfulness practice I've been using to cope with all the pressure arising from my work life is normalizing delaying responses. It's amazing how many situations only require you to respond with "I'll get back to you on that". There are many advantages to the interconnectivity provided by digital electronics but they can also be our main source of stress, so to protect my health I created a tech free zone. The problem created by digital communication is that they never let us leave work no matter our physical location, and the stress of constantly being available means that we are only an email or text message away from the next obligation or crisis. Therefore, by creating a space in my home in which I disconnect or disengage from my work devices, whether it be my smartphone and computer, I can prevent the temptation to check my emails, texts, or voice messages, and create some separation between my work and home life.
