One of my favorite car camping destinations for wildlife viewing is Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming. A few summers ago, I set up camp near the Lamar Valley, often called "America's Serengeti." Early one morning, just as the sun began to rise, I witnessed a pack of wolves in the distance, moving gracefully across the valley. It was surreal-watching them interact in their natural habitat while bison herds grazed nearby. I've found that dawn and dusk are the best times for wildlife encounters, so I always bring binoculars and set up near open fields. Camping in Yellowstone not only gave me these incredible experiences with wildlife but also deepened my respect for conservation. My advice? Stay patient and quiet-it's amazing what you can witness when nature feels undisturbed by your presence.
