Personally I use Microsoft's snipping tool and Brosix's screenshot tool. Microsoft's tool is great because it's default installed on any Windows PC, you can hotkey open it quickly by pressing Windows+Shift+S, and it's fairly simple and easy to use. However - it just copies your screenshot to your clipboard and doesn't give you a chance to edit it, which is annoying, and it's a bit slow to drag and drop the cursor over the required area. Then you have to paste it into a chat box or email etc. and don't really have the option to attach is as a file. Brosix is a better all-round tool, especially for business use and teamwork collaboration - but obviously you need to be using the Brosix chat app, so it isn't applicable to everyone. The reason the screenshot function works so well though is because you can literally just click on your colleague's name in your chat app, and click screenshot - so it's just a few clicks. It makes explaining processes and information lightning quick especially if you're sending multiple in quick succession.
Snipping tool works just great. My favorite feature is the auto copy feature. Every snip is saved to your clipboard for immediate use. Also, it allows you to name your file before saving while other tools auto save requiring extra steps to rename.
I’ve only used three out of the apps mentioned - Microsoft’s snipping tool, Greenshot, and Lightshot. The best one for me is Lightshot! However, I only use this in Windows because it’s buggy on Mac. Hence, I use Greenshot on my Mac. Microsoft’s snipping tool falls behind Lightshot by miles. The latter’s only strong point is its ruler/protractor. The former has all the features I never knew I needed - easily share the screenshot on your social media accounts, and direct printing. These features are extremely useful for Cafely! One snap and a few edits later, I am ready to share the screenshot on our social media accounts. The features I need the most are the arrow, text, marker, and rectangle functions. Microsoft’s snipping tool does not have the arrow and text functions, and that’s why I prefer Lightshot. When writing documents, the text function is needed because there are times when it’s better to label them rather than highlight items. I’ve learned that this helps others better understand what I’m trying to say. I would have used Lightshot in my Mac but it doesn’t function as how it does on Windows. Greenshot is the first screen capture app I learned of and I’m pretty satisfied with it so I never bothered to try another. The blur and pixelate tools are its best features! It helps cover sensitive data in a snap! The numbered bullets feature is its second-best function. Whenever I ask my developers to change something on our website, this is handy because it only takes one click compared to using the text tool.
