Feeling better about how I look helped me speak up more. I used to hide in group settings--even when I had good ideas. Once I stopped picking myself apart, I started showing up. In meetings, on video shoots, even at the gym. That confidence didn't come from losing weight or changing anything physical. It came from changing how I talked to myself. Don't wait for the "perfect" version of yourself to start living. Dress the way you want now. Show up for the camera now. Speak with the voice you've got now. Start treating yourself the way you treat your best friend. That shift makes you magnetic--and it changes how others see you too.
One of the most surprising ways that improving my body image positively impacted my life was in how it changed my professional interactions. As a dentist and healthcare provider, I've always been focused on helping others feel confident in their smiles. However, I hadn't fully realized how my self-perception subtly influenced the energy I brought into the room. As I worked on improving my body image--focusing more on strength, wellness, and self-compassion rather than perfection--I noticed that I became more present, confident, and relaxed with both my team and my patients. This shift in focus made me a stronger advocate for not just outer beauty, but for the authentic self-worth that each individual possesses.
