Boron is a key player in prostate health due to its capacity to modulate significant hormones and enzyme metabolism. Studies suggest that boron participates in androgen metabolism through steroid hormones such as testosterone and estrogen. Balanced levels of hormones is one of the keys in achieving a healthy prostate, since unbalance may trigger abnormal cell division or inflammation. There is also inflammation, and here, boron's function is related to its ability to alter inflammation marker levels. Research indicates that boron appears to inhibit some pro-inflammatory cytokines that are known to cause chronic inflammation, which is often present with prostate disorder. Boron seems to be safe when used for a prolonged period of time as long as one adheres to the dietary bounds of approximately 1-3 mg a day for adults, although there is therapeutic medicine which can allow higher intake with supervision. Too much boron consumed can cause toxicity, so it is crucial to use controlled supplementation if needed. Prior information seems to suggest that during appropriate consumption boron supplementation can support prostate health as well general wellbeing without negative health impacts.
