Style is all about empowerment and bringing a vision to life through thoughtful execution. As a stylist intern for a girly and playful swimwear brand, one of the key strategies I use to build confidence in my clients is creating a mood board that clearly outlines the vibe we're going for. Whether the look is girly, edgy, or sexy, the mood board acts as a visual guide to help models understand the narrative behind the styling. By providing a cohesive representation of the colors, textures, poses, and overall energy, it gives them a clear sense of the story they're helping to tell, which boosts their confidence in how they present themselves. In addition to using mood boards, I believe in the power of positive affirmations to reinforce confidence. Throughout the styling process, I make it a point to highlight what looks amazing on them, complimenting how specific elements of the outfit enhance their natural beauty. Encouraging phrases like, "This color was made for you" or "You're completely nailing this vibe" help them feel connected to the styling choices and empowered by their role in bringing the look to life. By combining the clarity of a mood board with the uplifting reinforcement of positive affirmations, clients feel more aligned with the styling vision and confident in their ability to embody it.
First, fashion and style are different. Fashion is about following the latest trends from designers, brands, influencers and the media. In comparison, your personal style is based on where you live, your lifestyle, age, body type and personality. Since we're all different, I recommend researching the current trends and incorporating certain elements, like color, into your wardrobe. A client of mine memorized the color wheel to learn what colors go together. Another tip is to look at nature, where colors are always complementary.
