My favorite non-electronic game to play while tent camping is good old-fashioned chess. It's portable, doesn't require batteries or Wi-Fi, and the silence of nature makes it the perfect setting to really get into the game. There's something special about playing chess outside--on a simple travel board, with a cup of coffee in hand, and the sound of birds or a nearby stream in the background. It turns the game into a peaceful yet strategic experience. Plus, it sparks great conversations and friendly rivalries around the campfire. At ChessEasy Academy, we always say chess isn't just a game it's a way to connect, think deeply, and have fun anywhere, anytime. And in the unplugged setting of the outdoors, it becomes even more magical.
One of my all-time favorites is the classic game of charades. It's perfect for tent camping because it doesn't require any equipment or setup—just a bit of creativity and a willingness to let loose. In the glow of a campfire, acting out book titles, movies, or random objects becomes a hilarious and engaging activity that can pull every camper into the fun, regardless of age. It’s especially amusing when someone tries to portray something complex, and the guesses start flying wildly off mark. Another great aspect of charades is that it naturally brings people together, fostering a sense of teamwork and camaraderie. As the night sky blankets you in stars and the only lights are the flickering flames, there’s something truly magical about laughing together in the wilderness. It’s moments like these that make tent camping memorable. So the next time you’re out in the wild, disconnected from all gadgets, consider a good old-fashioned game of charades; it might just become the highlight of your trip.
Corn hole is my favorite camping game. I love to play it with my dad whenever we are lounging around during our camping trips. It's perfect because it's easy to understand and play. You can play 1-on-1 or even in teams if you have a larger group. There have even been a few times that other campers have stopped by to join in on the fun!
