One of the biggest upgrades we’ve made to our GRE prep program is digitizing our exam prep book. Previously, our book was only available in print format. Then we started offering it in PDF format for students to make their lives more convenient when on the go. However, we found that even the PDF version wasn’t providing enough flexibility. It was clunky scrolling through it on the iPhone, and there was no note taking feature. So last year we undertook a project to digitize the text and offer it through a mobile app with assistive features. Now our book can be accessed in the app with smoother scrolling, the ability to take notes and highlight, and a save function for saving the exact line you’re on. It was a big lift for us, but it greatly improved functionality, accessibility and convenience for our customers. PDF deliverables are a thing of the past in my opinion.
Who doesn't have a phone or access to a phone? While completing my M.Ed., my mobile device was a primary learning tool; it allowed learning any time, any where. It broke down the barrier of geography for group projects and members stretched across the country. It worked in favor of sharing or accessing documents regularly and communicating ongoing throughout our day towards overall performance and learning outcomes. The efficiency in taking chunks of information as an approach allowed me more 'soak time' to process the information and not to get overwhelmed with lengthy study sessions. When I was 'on the go,' or without a computer, my mobile device supported the differing types of content. Whether it was imagery, created videos, text, or providing interactivity and/or simulations, it is conducive in delivering chunks of content, in a short or limited time, while accommodating my personal preference(s), abilities, even capacity.
