I have used evidence-based practice to inform patient care by reducing infection rates when caring for Foley urinary catheters in patients who have undergone a nerve block. I spoke with an RN and my student in recovery about how UTIs are increased in patients with a nerve block due to the bladder not responding or the innervation being dampened and thus, incurring an UTI. I have also taught my students how to better critically think and make correct patient priorities using the NCSBN's clinical judgment model. We use an assignment that helps guide them to develop their thinking according to that process.
