Teamwork is a very vital part of patient care in the healthcare setting. I remember an instance where cooperation between the different health workers was very important in turning around outcomes for a patient. It involved a highly specialized medical condition requiring the cooperation of many specialists, nurses and also support staff. We held ongoing interdisciplinary meetings to evaluate the patient’s progress, pool our knowledge together and reconsider a multidisciplinary approach. Information and knowledge flowed very smoothly between the team members, emphasizing a holistic approach to the patient's care. This led to a more individualized and comprehensive approach to the treatment that did not only target the immediate side-effects but also took into account the patient’s overall condition.
