I hated networking. As an introvert, just the thought of being around people I didn't know was terrifying. However, with encouragement from one of my professors to step outside of my comfort zone, I began attending events for a SHRM chapter in my area every month. Little did I know that these seemingly simple actions would have a profound impact on my career trajectory. When I sought to transition into the HR profession upon graduation and attended an interview, the interviewer was someone I had previously met through those networking events! It turned out that my participation in these gatherings had made a lasting impression, leading to my eventual hiring.
