Allergic reactions can happen even with the best products, so handling them with care is key. I had a client once who wanted to use one of the most hyped eyeshadow palettes on the market for an event. So, I began blending the shadow onto the eyelids, when she started to water and her skin around the eyes began to turn pink. I stopped immediately and gently removed the makeup with a mild, non-irritating makeup remover. To calm her skin, I had a cooling gel eye mask that I always carry with me for reactions of sensitive skin, so I applied it which she appreciated. We spoke afterward about past reactions to products, and she did mention that she does have sensitivity to dyes within some products. Rather than the palette, I went with a cream shadow which contains fewer ingredients that would give a soft, natural look without causing any irritation. The experience highlighted the importance of having a plan B and ensuring clients feel safe and taken care of throughout the process.
