Research on collagen and skin health seems to be pretty promising with collagen supplementation improving skin elasticity, hydration, and reducing wrinkles. Collagen type I is the most abundant type of collagen in our bodies and it has the most research studies to support its' use for reducing wrinkles and improving skin elasticity and hydration. Collagen peptides, marine collagen, and eggshell membrane all provide type 1 collagen. While the research on collagen sources is evolving and promising, it's not entirely rock solid yet. Most research studies have used small sample sizes and are usually very short term, typically 6 to 12 weeks long. Regardless, collagen is typically well tolerated by most people and the risk of trying collagen is usually minimal. Collagen can provide a small boost in protein intake too.
