The Short North is hands-down one of Columbus's most exciting areas. It's where you can find the monthly Gallery Hop, which brings out the best in local art and performances. Plus, it's packed with amazing restaurants and shops. For a great meal, I suggest you go to Northstar Cafe, which is known for its phenomenal burgers and cozy vibes. And if you're looking for a fun spot to grab a drink, Short North Pint House is a local favorite of mine with an open-air Biergarten and over 75 rotating beers.
I highly recommend the the Scioto Mile Promenade. It is a stunning public park in downtown Columbus thats spans the Scioto River from Battelle Riverfront Park to Bicentennial Park. You can walk, bike, or jog along the riverfront, take in the views from Coleman's Pointe overlook, or just sit back and enjoy the fountains at Huntington Plaza. If you're looking for a bite to eat nearby, Northstar Cafe has great food, or you can grab a craft beer at Wolf's Ridge Brewing.
There's no shortage of local gems to highlight. One of my favorite under-the-radar experiences is Franklinton Fridays, a monthly art walk in the city's emerging arts district. You'll find everything from open artist studios and food trucks to rooftop music performances. It's a raw, creative vibe that truly captures Columbus' spirit. For food and design lovers, Chapman's Eat Market in German Village is a standout. It's not just about the food (which is stellar), but the intimate ambiance and ever-changing menu that make it feel like a new experience each time. These aren't your typical tourist stops--they're woven into the everyday lives of locals. That's what makes them special.
The Candle Lab in the Short North is a wildly underrated spot. You custom-blend your own candle from over 100 scents -- think bourbon + leather or lavender + espresso. It's part activity, part souvenir, and feels way cooler than just buying one off the shelf. Also: Land-Grant Brewing's Beer Garden in Franklinton. In summer, it turns into basically Columbus's backyard -- food trucks, live music, dogs everywhere, all super casual. It's where locals actually hang out, not just tourists. Skip the chains at Easton. Head to Fox in the Snow for the best pastries in the city or grab late-night Korean fried chicken at CM Chicken in Upper Arlington. Columbus's magic is in the small, weird, hyper-local stuff -- not the big attractions.

Columbus Arts Festival: An annual event that happens in June and takes place along the Scioto Mile is one of the most loved events in the city, with artists traveling from all over the country a 3 day summer festival happening there will be live music, performances, and art to enjoy; giving visitors a great exposure to art in the community. Short North Arts District: Renowned for its eclectic art, dining and nightlife, the Short North Arts District serves as the cultural epicenter of Columbus. The district's monthly "Gallery Hop" is very popular, where galleries and shops stay open late to offer special events and releases for the late-night art enthusiast and night owl alike. COSI (Center of Science and Industry): COSI is rated one of the top science museums in the nation, providing interactive learning opportunities about science for everyone. With live shows, changing exhibits, a planetarium, and other experiences, the museum is an engaging place for families and curious minds.

It combines large-scale art, a haunted house, escape rooms and a mirror maze. Next on this list, the Short North Arts District hosts Gallery Hop on the first Saturday monthly, buzzing with live music, art exhibits, and local vibes. It is perfect for bloggers to capture and enjoy the best scenes. For events, the Columbus Arts Festival along the riverfront is a summer highlight for most travellers. It showcases local artists and various food trucks. By way of venues, the Book Loft in German Village is the best option to visit. It is a 32-room bookstore that's a treasure for any book lover or business owner with a story to tell. Lastly, Franklin Park Conservatory offers stunning botanical displays and seasonal exhibits. It is ideal for photographers chasing beauty. These spots truly reflect our city's creative pulse.

Whether it's the butterfly garden or the glass art, it hits deep. You forget you're in a city completely, every time. And they host events that feel intimate even with big crowds. Perfect balance of nature and creativity. I've actually taken teams there for offsites -- it works. Something about the space invites reflection, not noise. And the seasonal exhibits keep things fresh year-round. Columbus has green spaces that feel deeply human, and this one leads. Every founder needs a recharge spot -- this is mine. Bonus: their community programs are incredible too.
To me, the Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens is one of Columbus's best spots. It's a place where you can truly escape the city and fully immerse yourself in nature, art, and history all at once. Everything there is gorgeous, from the rainforests to the Dale Chihuly sculptures. But I think my favorite part is how it changes with the seasons. There are different events for each season, giving you an unique experience everytime you go. I especially like the spring event, "Blooms & Butterflies" where you can release butterflies into the biome. They also regularly host live music nights or cocktail events at the space.
