One unconventional coaching technique I used with a leader involved immersive role-playing to address leadership challenges. The leader was struggling with making quick, impactful decisions under pressure, particularly in crisis situations. I set up a scenario where they had to navigate a simulated business crisis while making real-time decisions, with immediate feedback provided throughout the exercise. This hands-on approach allowed them to experience the emotional and practical challenges of leadership, which is often hard to simulate in a traditional setting. The outcome was incredibly positive. The leader not only developed a stronger ability to handle stress but also gained a deeper understanding of their leadership style. By stepping out of their usual environment and experiencing the challenge in real-time, they developed better decision-making instincts and confidence. This technique highlighted the power of experiential learning in leadership development, proving that sometimes stepping outside the box leads to the most significant breakthroughs.
