My Background: I'm a registered dietitian based in Ireland. My background is 4 years in running a nutrition business, a MSc in Dietetics, a PGd in Nutrition and a BSc in Public Health. My Response: One dietary recommendation I would make to reduce the risk of diabetes is to limit meat consumption and focus on incorporating more lean proteins and plant-based proteins into your diet. Research has shown that a high intake of red and processed meats can increase the risk of developing type 2 diabetes. This is likely due to the high levels of saturated fat found in these types of meats. In contrast, lean proteins like fish and chicken and plant-based proteins such as beans, legumes, and tofu have been shown to have a positive impact on blood sugar control and overall health. These options are also lower in saturated fat. The plant based proteins also contain beneficial nutrients such as fibre, antioxidants, and phytochemicals that can help combat chronic diseases like diabetes. So, my recommendation would be to increase intake of these options in your week. This can be as simple as adding beans to soups and salads, swapping out meat for tofu in stir-fries, or having fish like salmon twice a week. By reducing meat consumption and increasing plant-based protein intake, you can lower your risk of developing diabetes and improve your overall health. Thank you very much for considering my response, Dan
