When educating clients on exfoliation, I start by emphasizing its role in revealing fresher, brighter skin. I keep it simple, explaining that exfoliation removes dead skin cells, allowing skincare products to penetrate better. For a gentle option, I recommend a lactic acid-based exfoliant like The Ordinary Lactic Acid 5% + HA. Its mild formula suits most skin types, ensuring a gentle yet effective exfoliation experience.
I try to help people understand the reasons for exfoliation and how to make sure they do it in a way that won't exacerbate any issues or damage their skin. With so many exfoliants available, from chemical to scrubs, it can be hard to determine what will work best for each unique individual. It's important to understand why they want an exfoliant; is it for texture, for pores, for acne, or wrinkles. Typically we find that for acne we guide users toward chemical exfoliants. In the case of texture and reducing pore size we find that our hybrid exfoliating face polish is a good solution. The Yuka+Face hybrid scrub uses jojoba esters. It starts out as a scrub but as you massage your skin the esters melt and the scrub becomes very hydrating. It's organic and vegan, and great for sensitive skin.
