One of the most challenging aspects of conducting an energy inspection has been dealing with incomplete or outdated building documentation. Without accurate blueprints or system records, it's tough to fully understand the energy flow or pinpoint inefficiencies. To overcome this, I developed a habit of creating detailed, on-the-spot diagrams and photo documentation during inspections, which I later cross-reference with utility data and interviews with facility managers. This hands-on approach helps fill in the gaps and provides a clearer picture for recommendations. My advice to others is to be thorough and patient—don't rely solely on existing documents. Take the time to observe and record everything you can during the site visit. It's time-consuming, but it ensures your analysis is grounded in reality and leads to actionable insights that actually improve energy performance.
