We turned energy savings into a mindfulness practice—literally. At Ridgeline Recovery, where healing and intentional living are part of our DNA, we've taken a creative approach to saving energy that aligns with our mission: we use scheduled digital detox blocks. Every day, both staff and clients participate in periods where screens, lights, and electronics are turned off unless medically necessary. Not only does this reduce our overall energy consumption significantly, but it also reinforces presence, mindfulness, and authentic connection—core values in addiction recovery. Personally, I've brought that habit home. I've shifted my morning routine to include natural light only—no phone, no artificial lights—just quiet planning and gratitude reflection with sunrise. It's a small change, but over time, the impact on both energy use and mental clarity is huge. Energy efficiency doesn't have to be technical—it can be human-centered too.
