Then they check if AI even makes sense for that problem. Sometimes it does not, and a simple automation or better process fixes it faster and cheaper. But nobody writes LinkedIn posts about fixing a spreadsheet workflow, so people skip straight to the "shiny" AI solution. Early adopters who actually succeeded did something "boring". They picked one narrow use case, measured it properly before and after, and only then expanded. No company-wide AI strategy, or transformation roadmaps. Just one problem, one solution, real numbers. The companies that stuck in pilot mode usually did the opposite: big vision, multiple experiments, no clear measurement, and after 18 months they cannot tell you if any of it worked, desperately waiting for some magical thing to occur.
