I recall a few years back when we were designing the collection for Amarra, I emphasized the incorporation of sustainable materials and ethical processes. This was at a time when sustainable fashion was not the popular trend it is now. I was observing an incremental awareness in consumers towards environment-friendly products in other domains, and I had a gut feeling that it would permeate into fashion too. We aligned our merchandising accordingly, sourcing sustainable fabrics, ensuring ethical manufacture, and marketing our approach prominently. Fast forward a year, and there was a wave of sustainable fashion that swept the industry. We were not only prepared but had positioned Amarra as a frontrunner in this shift. This decision successfully boosted our brand identity as well as sales, teaching us the significant impact of forecasting trends in fashion merchandising.
While founding and running USAPromDress.com, I closely followed fashion trends and successfully forecasted a shift in demand for prom dresses. By analyzing Google Search data, customer feedback, and social media trends, I predicted a rising demand for vintage-inspired dresses. This encouraged me to adjust our merchandising strategy and focus on stocking an extensive range of vintage-style prom dresses. This proactive shift proved tremendously effective. We saw our daily visitor traffic significantly increase from two to one hundred visitors, solidifying the effectiveness of our data analytics strategies in fashion trend forecasting. Being ahead of the curve in predicting and reacting to this fashion shift turned out to be a decisive factor in our e-commerce success.

During my time working at Under the Rose, we have seen a massive increase in people wanting personalised jewellery, so we have shifted our products towards this and seen some amazing results. It's too easy to walk into a shop and see the same jewellery, people can get pieces online from around the world. Often we see friends or family have the same ring from a popular, affordable retailer. So, as a result, more shoppers are looking for unique jewellery that is made just for them. That's where we come in. You can get a completely custom leather men's bracelet with a personalised message, choose the leather type, clasp colour and material. No one will ever have the same thing as you. A step further is our Morse Code jewellery, where we translate your message into dots and dashes on a bracelet, necklace or anklet. Again this is completely custom! In conclusion personalised/custom jewellery is on the rise!
In the competitive realm of fashion merchandising, anticipating trend shifts is essential. Around 2019, data showed a growing consumer preference for sustainable fashion, particularly among millennials and Gen Z who value environmental impact. A mid-sized fashion brand, initially focused on fast fashion, adapted by investing in sustainable practices, demonstrating the importance of aligning merchandising strategies with evolving consumer values to maintain market relevance.
