My biggest tip is this: be ready to wait for a table, and don't rush through your meal — especially at classic Chicago spots like deep-dish pizza places, steakhouses, or neighborhood joints. Chicagoans tend to treat dining out as a full experience, not just a quick in-and-out. Reservations are super important for all of the popular restaurants (and even some casual ones). After living here for 13 years, I've also learned that neighborhood loyalty is real. People love their local pizza place, or Italian beef shop, and everyone has strong opinions! And of course you have to know that for a classic Chicago hot dog, remember: no ketchup if you want to fit in with the locals!
