In each and every yoga class I teach, I connect with new students to assess their fitness level individually. I can't always talk to each student in larger classes. However, everyone has a new body each week, so I follow up in our first child's pose with a question about their daily yoga level they will aspire to. This just reconfirms with the group about each person's level variations with a thumbs up (gentle yoga), to the side (intermediate), and down (advanced). This way, I allow for anonymity. This helps me to include all levels in variations of poses with some recognition of self-prescribed levels by each and every student without calling attention to any single person.
