The ramifications of chocolate ingestion can vary. A small amount of milk chocolate in a giant breed dog may very well be quite benign (i.e. your Newfoundland eats a single Hershey Kiss). But when there is dark chocolate, Baker's chocolate, cocoa etc involved, we can see a wide ranges severity of signs. From vomiting and diarrhea to acute pancreatitis, to potential cardiac toxicity if larger doses are ingested. When baking or keeping baked goods, candies and the like in the home, they should be up high and in sealed, air-tight, dog-proof containers. Even a whiff of chocolate can tempt the most well-behaved dog to countersurf!
