From my perspective, one key factor in improving the overall telehealth experience for both healthcare providers and patients is to use online tools and services that enable effective communication, collaboration, and data sharing. Communication is essential for establishing rapport, trust, and empathy between providers and patients, as well as for delivering accurate diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up. Collaboration is important for coordinating care across different settings, specialties, and teams, as well as for engaging patients in their own health management. Data sharing is vital for accessing and updating relevant health information, such as medical records, test results, and prescriptions, as well as for ensuring data security and privacy. Online tools and services, such as video calls, instant messaging, online portals, and cloud storage, can facilitate these aspects of telehealth and enhance the quality, efficiency, and satisfaction of both providers and patients.
Accessibility has improved the telehealth experience for clinicians and patients. The ability to connect with patients seamlessly, without necessitating any interruption to their daily routines for an in-office visit, has been a game-changer. As the digital health boom expands, we now have to improving the quality of care that is equitable, while maintaining a standard of excellence that allows the patient navigate health conditions in a safe manner.

One key factor in improving the overall teleheath experience for both healthcare providers and patients is having a consistent platform that is seamless and works consistently. We have used 3-4 different platforms in our large sleep practice over the last 4 years and everyone has consistency issues that will prevent one of us from seeing or hearing the other that results in time wasted, frustration, and then having to either pick up the phone and talk on the phone or reschedule a visit because we wasted 10-15 minutes trying to troubleshoot. This is the largest barrier to consistent and effective telehealth is the technology that does not work consistently.
