We've not incorporated AI yet because we honestly cannot understand how it'll be worth the investment. The cost of setting up, tweaking, and otherwise making it work properly outweighs the perceived potential benefits. That, coupled with low uptake and completion of learning programs (without forcing people), makes it seem like a sunk cost that'll take years to recoup - if it's ever recouped. Of course, my thoughts and perspective may not be correct but that's what's holding us back right now.

We have dabbled with it in some parts of our learning and development program in the sense we offer online L & D where people can self-serve at home or in the office using AI. We are hesitant to go much further than that because it remains an uncertain tech that we aren't sure how to implement correctly and where it makes a difference for HR or our employees. I'm sure we will eventually move forward but we need more education on how to better use it and probably will need more money to do it also. That is a hard thing to do in this economy.

However, since predefined variables and datasets are still picked by humans, bias can still infiltrate the AI and ML models during training. In the same way that a company's new ideas will be diverse and unique if it hires employees from various backgrounds, the likelihood of bias will be decreased if the AI team is diverse. The L&D AI system must be constantly trained to account for market changes and eliminate any bias that results from fresh data sets in order to be accurate and relevant.
