I’ve been in sales for two decades, and have sent countless emails to prospects—warm and cold. One thing to remember is that many people—and buyers in particular—often get dozens, if not hundreds of emails (and other messages) each day, and if they don’t respond to yours, it’s not personal. Part of sales is tenacity; that is, following up and following up and continuing to follow up until you make that connection. All this is to say that professionals can improve their sales skills and achieve success by getting better at writing. This means, in many respects, being brief. Generally, people will not read emails more than 2 paragraphs long, or however many lines they can see on their phone. This is especially so for emails coming from people they don’t know—there is simply too much else going on. Be respectful of your prospect's time. To get the best shot of them reading your email and getting back to you, I recommend you hit the most important points, and ONLY the important points: who you are, why you are contacting them, how you can help them.
As a CEO of a software development company, I believe that professionals can improve their sales skills and achieve greater success by focusing on building strong relationships with their clients. Instead of just pushing for a sale, take the time to truly understand your client's needs and concerns. Show genuine interest in helping them solve their problems and provide value through your products or services. By building trust and rapport, you'll not only increase your chances of making a sale but also create long-lasting partnerships that lead to greater success in the long run.
My biggest transformation came when I stopped focusing on the outcome of my calls or presentations. The moment you learn to let go of trying to control the outcome of each sales call is the moment you start to focus more on the process and quality of your calls. It's a hard shift to make, but it comes with tremendous benefits: reduced pressure, more genuine relationships, more trust, and honestly—the list goes on and on.
Recently Techtopia started to implement Agent Assist from Five9 and PanTerra on all of our inbound and outbound sales calls. We have seen a dramtic improvement in the quality of conversation that our sales team is having. Five9's agent assist provides real-time coaching: Agent Assist analyzes calls and suggests next-best-actions, prompting our salespeople on relevant information, promotions, or objection handling techniques during the conversation. This can lead to smoother sales pitches and increased closing rates. We've also seen better recap emails and better information being passed to our onboarding team. Agent assist Reduces the after-call work. Forget summarizing calls manually. Agent Assist generates transcripts and summaries, allowing your sales team to focus on the next customer interaction rather than paperwork and keeping the CRM up to date.
Active listening is crucial. By genuinely understanding the needs and pain points of potential clients, professionals can tailor their sales approach to offer personalized solutions, ultimately building trust and rapport and increasing the likelihood of success.
One key tip for improving sales skills and achieving greater success is to prioritize continuous learning and development. In the fast-paced world of sales, staying updated on industry trends, sales techniques, and best practices is essential for staying ahead of the competition and delivering exceptional results. One effective strategy is to invest time in ongoing training programs, workshops, and industry events that offer valuable insights and practical skills development. Additionally, leveraging online resources such as webinars, podcasts, and sales-focused blogs can provide valuable knowledge and inspiration. Furthermore, seeking mentorship from experienced sales professionals can offer invaluable guidance and personalized advice tailored to individual growth areas. By embracing a growth mindset and actively seeking opportunities for learning and improvement, professionals can continuously refine their sales skills and achieve greater success in their careers.
To improve sales skills and achieve greater success, professionals should prioritise relationship-building with clients. This involves actively listening to clients' needs, providing tailored solutions, and consistently following up to ensure satisfaction. By fostering trust and rapport, professionals can create loyal customers who are more likely to return for repeat business and refer others. This emphasis on building relationships rather than just closing deals not only leads to increased sales but also contributes to long-term success and sustainability in the business.
An important thing for sales helpers is to listen well. When they really hear what clients need, they can get what clients want. They ask what clients want and repeat what clients say. This helps sales helpers know just what clients need and give good answers. Listening well makes clients trust sales helpers more too. When sales helpers listen well, they are more likely to make a good sale.
Sales pro must know how to solve their client's problem related to the product or service offering. Expertise, authoritativeness, and trustworthiness are the factors, when combined with the relationship building and problem-solving skills, that can work wonders for any salesperson.
