Recently the white house advised companies to drop memory insecure programming languages that handle memory management manually (C,C++, ...) The reason for this is simple, buffer overflows is still ranking among the nr1 exploitable attack vector, unfortunately. Software Developers Today in 2024 need to focus more than just writing functional and bug free code, they need to manually know the attack vectors attackers use and how to write secure and safe code. There are many examples how insecure code can be written that isn't easily been detected by automatic code checking tools hence the importance of educating developers on the matter. But it's a 2 way stream, cybersecurity professionals need to know what mistakes Developers make and need to be able to work together with Devs to reach this goal.
