One example that comes to mind is when I worked with a client who was struggling with imposter syndrome. They had recently been promoted to a leadership role but felt unqualified and feared being "found out" by their team. This self-doubt was affecting their confidence and performance. Through our coaching, we identified the root causes of their feelings and explored their past accomplishments and strengths. I helped them reframe their mindset, focusing on their skills and leadership potential rather than comparing themselves to others. We also worked on setting realistic goals to build momentum and increase their sense of competence. Over time, they were able to embrace their role with more confidence and began to trust in their abilities, ultimately improving both their performance and their team's dynamics.
I worked with a client who was struggling to advance in her marketing career. She felt stuck and invisible in her competitive field. Together, we tackled this by focusing on career clarity-identifying her strengths and passions to define her ideal job path. Next, we enhanced her personal branding, particularly on LinkedIn, highlighting her key achievements and unique skills. We also developed her networking strategy, including active participation in professional forums and publishing articles on industry trends. These steps not only built her confidence but also significantly increased her visibility in the industry. As a result, She was offered a higher-level position at a new company, perfectly aligning with her career aspirations. This experience underscored the power of a clear career focus, strong personal branding, and proactive networking in overcoming career obstacles.
I worked with a project manager at a major state agency who wanted to advance into management and leadership. We structured his resume and developed a career plan which soon led him to be recruited and promoted into another state agency. I continued working with him, and eventually a senior opportunity appeared at his original organization, and he seized it. Ultimately he rose to executive director of that organization, and he is broadly respected there.
I once helped a client navigate the difficult decision of letting go of a family member who was working for their business. The challenge was balancing the emotional ties with the professional reality that the family member was abusing the relationship, collecting a paycheck without contributing meaningfully to the work. Together, we focused on reframing the situation: I asked, "If they weren't family, would you fire them?" and also, "Because they are family, shouldn't they care enough about your success to try?" This perspective helped my client see the decision as not just a business necessity but also an act of setting healthy boundaries. Through coaching, they approached the situation with clarity and compassion, ultimately preserving their business while maintaining respect within the family dynamic.
A client I worked with in Dubai, a senior manager in a hospitality company, faced a significant career obstacle. Despite having strong technical skills and experience, she struggled with leadership communication and team engagement. Her inability to effectively connect with her team led to poor morale, high turnover, and stagnating performance in her department. Her superiors noticed the lack of results and hinted that her position might be reassessed if things didn't improve. She came to me frustrated and unsure of how to bridge the gap between her technical expertise and her leadership responsibilities. Drawing on my years of experience coaching business owners and professionals across different industries, I conducted a thorough assessment of her leadership style. Using tools from my MBA in finance and insights from my study of 675 entrepreneurs, I identified that she was focused on micromanaging instead of empowering her team. Together, we worked on developing her emotional intelligence, crafting clear and inspiring communication strategies, and implementing systems to delegate effectively. Within three months, her department's performance improved dramatically. Employee retention stabilized, team productivity rose by 40 percent, and she was recognized by her company's leadership as a transformative manager. Her success not only saved her role but also paved the way for her promotion to a regional leadership position. This case highlights how deep analysis, strategic planning, and tailored coaching can turn obstacles into opportunities for growth.
A typical self-limiting belief or hurdle to overcome with clients can be a lack of self-confidence, preventing them from moving forward in their lives and careers. Utilising my extensive training, I have designed various tools to help clients move forward; one of them is utilising a combination of 360 feedback, NLP and affirmations to help my clients build their self-awareness and confidence through the help of external sources such as friends and family. In using this tool, they grow their self-awareness in their skills and abilities, and combining this with NLP and affirmations, they retrain their brains to focus more on the positive as opposed to the negative, and this enables them to believe in themselves and interact with the world around them more positively, creating more opportunities for advancement in both their personal and professional lives.
Making the move from a technical to a leadership role was difficult for one of my clients, who struggled with confidence and effective delegation. Together, we pinpointed their main advantages and changed the way they thought about leadership to one that focused on enabling people rather than doing everything oneself. I assisted them in creating trust-building techniques and effective communication skills for their team through role-playing games and organised feedback sessions. They became more assured of their leadership skills by concentrating on attainable objectives and acknowledging minor victories. They led a significant project effectively in a matter of months, receiving praise from higher management. This event demonstrated how individualized coaching may turn obstacles into chances for development.

Below is a description of the problem my client came to me with and how he overcame obstacles leading to his ability to make the best career decision that takes his neurodivergence into account, and feel confident going forward. Lack of confidence in making a choice that is both fulfilling and sustainable is what the majority of my clients come to me with. "With the lack of understanding around neurodivergence, in an already chaotic society, it's nearly ensured that you will feel lost in finding your path. Working with Shell was an eye opener that not only helped me define what I want my path/life to be, but helped me get out of my own way so I could control changing the narrative, see my whole self clearly, and push for the things I deserve that will be lost dealing with the agendas pushed to us every day. Shell's experiences and perspectives helped me understand my worth and changed my mindset so I could remember who I've forgotten I am, explore the opportunities that are awaiting me and would have been left to believe were unattainable"
