X / Twitter is by far one of the most valuable resources for me to stay up to date with relevant engineering news in my industry. By following other engineers with similar interests, I know that the content shown to me will be relevant to my specific niche of finance an data and will still include major headlines, news or outlets that would be relevant to me rather than having to sift through a variety of outlets which may cover a large amount of content that doesn't have value to my specific interests. My second most used resource is YouTube. YouTube helps me gain exposure to discussions around engineering developments which can give me a broader view of news rather than the more specific news I might gain exposure to on X. This means that I have a higher likelihood of seeing information that exposes me to new ideas outside of my niche. Some examples would be the "Fireship" youtube channel which discusses various programming frameworks and developments which consistently gives me exposure to new developments outside of what is shown to me on X. An example of what I would see on X might be discussion around the performance or attributes of a new foundation model or hardware release that could benefit my personal business.
