Is Google meet better than Zoom?

In June of 2020, I started ZoomDJs.com. At the time, I was performing complimentary DJ sets and gameshows to anyone down in the dumps with the pandemic. Zoom was my go to platform because of the clarity of audio and quick ability to spotlight users. Since then, Zoom has yet to be rivaled in how audio and video is received by the end user. It is still my preferred platform to date, despite being the resident DJ and host on retainer for both Airmeet and Cisco Webex! In fact, Zoom now has a featured setting for Musicians in which audio limiters are disabled, plus stereo and hi-def effects can be added. I have performed over 550 virtual events using Zoom, so you know where my bias is. Still, it's difficult to say definitively which one is "better," as it ultimately depends on your specific needs and preferences. Google has the name, but Zoom garnered me fame :)

Google meet has a better interface and is easy to use. Zoom is better if you want to conduct a video conference with just a few participants, as it allows you to have video calls with up to 15 people at a time. Zoom is better if you want to conduct a video conference with fewer participants. Google Meet is a better tool if you are meeting with a large number of people, and Zoom is better if you are meeting with a small number of people.

In my opinion, Zoom is better than Google Meet because of the additional conferencing features it offers. Both platforms provide a range of functionalities, such as screen sharing, audio and video conferencing, and the ability to host large meetings. However, Zoom offers more advanced features, such as breakout rooms, the ability to record meetings, and support for large webinars. Some of these are unavailable at Google Meet, and you need to pay extra for some. Besides, additional features like whiteboards, waiting rooms, and lighting filters are built-in in Zoom, while in the case of Google Meet, you need to download Chrome extensions to get these. Therefore, Zoom is responding more comprehensively to meetings and conference hosting needs. However, the decision to use Zoom instead of Google Meet should be based on the individual’s needs and budget capacity.

Using specific hardware, you can use Google Meet to easily convert any regular physical meeting space into a video conference space. So, I would say, your priority matters to choose a platform. Only for the sole purpose of video conferencing, go for zoom. But, meet works better with other google apps. I prefer the latter.

Personally, I find Google meet more effective because it has more features that make it easier to communicate and collaborate. This allows you to focus on whoever is speaking without distractions from other participants.

Zoom loses out to google meet when it comes to living captions. They come in handy when the audio is problematic. Google meet is a part of the G Suite, meaning you get to use Meet and subscribe to Meet as part of integration across services like Chat, Gmail, Drive, Calendar, Docs, and other essential Google tools.

While comparing google meet and zoom work-wise, the former is the simpler option. Zoom can host large no. of participants, huge meetings, provide ample features to try, and so on. But, google meet gives you the option of short and more informal meetings. In case of timing, you could also extend it in google meet way cheaper than in zoom. So, this suits a wider audience than just the business class. What I find more inclusive is you could access it on the web itself. There is no specialized app needed like zoom. So, starting and joining a video call becomes much easier. Nowadays, considering the different areas one works from, having a google account is more accessible. The one video conferencing that connects to google is google meet. In short, a much more straightforward option is google meet.

I think Google Meet is better than Zoom. Zoom has a lot of features that Google Meet does not have, like group video chat and screen sharing. But Google Meet just has more features overall, including free group video calling and free screen sharing. Plus, Google Meet is available on more devices than Zoom. You can use it on your computer, phone, or tablet with Android or iOS. Zoom is only available in Chrome—and only as an extension for Chrome. I think that is enough to make me want to go for Google Meet over Zoom.

I had the privilege of switching from a Meet-based office to a Zoom-based one, and I prefer the latter. In essence, Zoom offers a better UI, is more stable in low connectivity areas and has a lot of features (auto recordings, polls etc) that are relly beneficial for teamwork. Not to say that GMeet us bad. It's more accessible, has a very intuitive screen sharing module and is very stable. But, personally and professionally Zoom is better.

In early 2022, we made the decision to use Google Meet rather than Zoom for group coaching and implementation sessions within one of my paid programs. It worked fine for me because I have two screens. But it did not work well for my program participants who don't have a double monitor set up. They were constantly searching for where the meeting was and what they were sharing on screen. Midway through the year, we went back to Zoom because it was a much better user experience (even though it meant getting multiple extra licenses at an added cost).

By comparison with the meeting management features, Zoom has the most effective features in comparison to Google meet. It can lock a meeting in between and host all the power to control the netting. The host can turn off the kick or video of the unwanted participants but in Google meet the admin can only turn off the kick or video, but the host can't have access. Google meet so can't have any reporting mechanism and you can't lock a meeting. Zoom has Zoom's trust and safety team to report any users and they can turn off the private chats of everyone for the whole meeting.

While the meetings via Zoom and Google Meets don’t differ much from each other, Google’s tool offers many functionalities that make your life easier. It has the advantage of automatic synchronization with other Google tools, like Google Calendar and Gmail, so if you use them daily, you can easily arrange and manage all your meetings. Additionally, Google Meet offers a much better free plan than Zoom, so if you don’t have a budget for a meeting platform, Google Meet is the right choice.
