Evergreens are a popular choice when it comes to low-maintenance year round plants, and one of my favorites here is going to be boxwood. Boxwood is a classic evergreen shrub, and I'll often see them either trimmed into regular shapes or allowed to grow a bit larger and "wilder." But, they will provide year round foliage that's a bit of an alternative to your classic evergreen needles, and they are very low maintenance once they're established. They make great privacy hedges or just landscaping plants to enjoy and add some color to your yard in winter. Another one I'd recommend is creeping phlox. While creeping phlox isn't an evergreen plant, it is a very reliable perennial that thrives in shady or poor soil areas where you might struggle to get anything else established. It can be a great ground cover and requires minimal care again, once it's established. It also has some of the most unique and beautiful blooms in spring!
- Succulents Succulents serve as popular low-maintenance landscaping options because they need infrequent watering and low maintenance. The thick fleshy leaves of these plants function as water reservoirs which enables them to thrive across different climates. The real estate industry strongly recommends succulents for outdoor spaces because they create visual appeal through texture while requiring no regular maintenance. - Lavender Lavender serves as an ideal perennial plant selection because it needs minimal upkeep throughout the entire year. The fragrant plant delivers attractive purple blooms which create vibrant visual interest in outdoor spaces. The plant draws in butterflies and bees while serving as an excellent choice for sustainable landscaping. The practical applications of lavender include its soothing fragrance which promotes relaxation and its essential oils that deliver healing benefits. - Ornamental Grasses Ornamental grasses are another low maintenance option for landscaping. These plants come in different sizes, colors, and textures, so they can be used in any yard. They need very little watering and pruning and can add movement and interest to your landscape with their swaying blades. Ornamental grasses also provide year round visual appeal as they do not lose their leaves or flowers in the colder months. - Rosemary Rosemary serves as both a culinary herb and a low-maintenance landscaping solution. The evergreen shrub needs minimal water and grows well in different soil types. Your yard benefits from the pleasant fragrance of its leaves while its purple flowers attract bees and other pollinators. The plant has medical applications and people use it to enhance memory function and mood.
I have seen many low maintenance year round plants that are great for landscaping. These plants not only enhance the appearance of a yard, but they also need little or no maintenance, which makes them perfect for busy homeowners. One type of plant that I highly recommend is the evergreen shrub. These shrubs keep their leaves throughout the year, adding color and texture even in the winter. They are also drought tolerant and can tolerate extreme weather conditions, which makes them low maintenance plants for any yard.
