Hi there, I'm a mom of 2 and time management, productivity and stress reduction coach. And, as someone with ADHD, let's just say that memory has never been my strong suit. So, my pitch to you is not going to be about why remembering expiration dates of important docs is important, instead, I'll share with you how I sidestep memory altogether. And how I help my clients (most of whom are also busy parents) to avoid letting passports, driver's licenses, etc. expire. Personally, I use a task app (TickTick.com) to keep track of everything I have to do. And for passports, or anything that expires, and for which it takes a while to renew, I have a task in my task system for several months to a year before it expires, so that I can get the process started. This way, I don't have to keep this information in working memory, but I'm also never surprised by an upcoming expiration and I don't have to scramble at the last minute. If you don't use a task app, you can use your calendar for this. Just get events with reminders well before the actual expiration dates, so you have time to deal with them. This is also a great strategy for birthdays, etc. (I have a task a couple weeks before each person's birthday that tells me to get them a gift or card, and then another task set to their actual birthdate to remind me to call them.) Hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any questions! Best, Alexis
Forgetting expiration dates for important documents can cause significant stress and complications. For example, a mother planning a family trip overlooked renewing her child's passport, leading to last-minute scrambles, missed flights, and extra costs for expedited services. This scenario highlights how such oversights can disrupt personal plans and have broader implications for operations and partnerships.
