Turning Conflict into Collaboration As the founder, negotiation is a skill I've had to hone over time, especially when dealing with challenging situations in our legal process outsourcing company. One memorable instance involved a client who was adamant about reducing our fees significantly, despite the high complexity and volume of work involved. It felt unreasonable, given the value we were providing. Instead of pushing back immediately, I took a step back to understand their concerns and discovered they were under budget constraints due to a recent legal setback. I proposed a solution in which we streamlined certain deliverables to focus on their highest priorities while maintaining quality. This allowed us to lower costs without compromising value. This approach diffused the tension and strengthened our relationship with the client. My key takeaway was that listening and reframing the conversation to find mutual ground can turn even the toughest negotiations into a win-win outcome.
