One essential relational skill for career success is the ability to see from other people's perspectives. This empathy not only builds stronger relationships but also makes sales interactions more effective. For example, I always emphasize acknowledging and owning all potential negatives upfront in a conversation. By doing this, I control the narrative and turn potential drawbacks into strengths. In sales, instead of saying, "Our program is effective, but it's long and complex," I reverse it: "The process is long and complex, but it works better than anything else you've ever tried." This approach disarms skepticism and amplifies the positive aspects, building trust and credibility. Practicing this skill has enhanced my career by improving my persuasive abilities, fostering deeper connections with clients, and ultimately driving better results in both sales and leadership.
