To optimize wired network infrastructure for real-time applications, I focus on implementing Quality of Service (QoS) protocols as a best practice. Early in one project, we faced latency issues that affected video conferencing and VoIP calls. By prioritizing real-time traffic using QoS, we ensured that critical data packets were transmitted first, reducing jitter and packet loss. This significantly improved call clarity and responsiveness. Additionally, segmenting the network with VLANs helped isolate traffic types, minimizing congestion. Investing in high-quality switches that support QoS and monitoring tools allowed us to identify bottlenecks and adjust policies dynamically. From this experience, I learned that proactively managing traffic priorities and continuously monitoring performance are key to delivering reliable, real-time services over wired networks.
