I was wild camping in the Cederberg mountains in South Africa. This wilderness area is home to the Cape Rock Leopard, a species which is on the brink of extinction. We were privileged to encounter one on our first night. Whilst sleeping in my tent, I heard some movement outside and I opened my tent door to see about 35m away this beautiful Cape Rock Leopard silhouetted by the moonlight. This rare encounter with some a large cat, made me realise the importance of conserving the natural world we live in.
