At Al-Aziz Optical, our preferred method for conducting physical inventory counts is the cycle counting method — breaking down inventory into categories and counting small sections regularly rather than all at once. This approach minimizes business disruption and helps maintain consistent stock accuracy without having to close operations for a full count. One tool that significantly improved our accuracy is using a cloud-based POS system with barcode scanning integration. Each frame and lens is tagged, and our team uses barcode scanners connected to the POS system to update counts in real-time. It has eliminated most manual entry errors and makes reconciliation with digital records much faster. Additionally, we always do blind counts first (where the staff counting doesn't know the expected quantity), then compare the results to system data to flag any discrepancies early. This layered approach has made our inventory far more reliable.
