For trauma survivors specifically, a primary benefit of mindfulness is an ability to quickly return to the present moment when you're triggered or dissociated. When you practice mindfulness and practice bringing your mind back to the present moment over and over again, you're training that muscle and strengthening that mental pathway. Then, if you do get triggered or start dissociating, your brain is already primed to come back to present. Mindfulness is something can be practiced a few minutes at a time every day without the oversight of a licensed therapist, so it's a very accessible and effective tool for trauma survivors to use in their healing journey.
