Can you describe a time when you made a purchase that went against your typical buying habits? What prompted this deviation, and what did you learn from it?

Purchased a salesforce contract well before I understood what it can provide me and my company. I usually will research or try things out well in advance of purchasing something, especially in the case of software. Was a thorn in my side for a while, lesson learned.
