Launching a company in the aerospace space! It's an exhilarating venture but also a terrifying one. Having been fortunate to be involved with several aerospace-startups, I have experienced firsthand how difficult (or rewarding) this space can be. My one thing I always tell people is to solve a very specific big problem in the industry. Avoid boiling the ocean or addressing a problem that is too big. Find a specific pain point or need that you're passionate about addressing, then bring together a group of specialists who share your perspective. So, what are those key challenges and opportunities... Challenges: 1. Regulatory challenges: Aerospace is an industry with extensive regulation, and the layers of laws, regulations, and standards can be labyrinthine. 2. These industries are often subject to high development costs, as creating aerospace products or services requires a considerable investment in research, development, and testing. 3. Talent acquisition and retention: The aerospace industry can be competitive, and acquiring and retaining the best talent can be a challenge, particularly with the industry being flushed with bigger players. Opportunities: 1. Increasing space technology demand: There's growing demand for innovative space technologies - companies such as SpaceX and Blue Origin are paving the way. 2. Ongoing transitions in digital technologies: The aerospace industry is primed for disruption through digital technologies such as AI, blockchain, and IOT. 3. Environmental and sustainability emphasis: The increasing worries regarding climate change and sustainability present opportunities for aerospace companies to create cleaner, greener products and services. To address these pressures and make the most of these opportunities, I'd suggest: 1. Developing a solid network: Network with industry professionals, mentors, and future collaborators to gain invaluable knowledge and direction. 2. Being nimble and flexible: Be ready to shift your business strategy or product offerings as the market and regulatory landscape changes. 3. Emphasizing innovation and IP creation: It can support your company to stand lone by investing on building development of unique and significant IP with help ofResearch and development. NOTE: This blog should be your source of inspiration to start your own aerospace company which will lead you into a fulfilling profession with exciting opportunities to face and challenges to overcome.
